[Previous entry: "interesting alliance"] [Next entry: "another boxer speeding"] 03/10/2007: "rebate"
In their letter to the Chancellor of 28 September asking for the October 1st fuel duty increase of 2p to be postponed, the Freight Transport Association and Road Haulage Association complained about the unfair competition they face from foreign hauliers using cheaper fuel. That's quite a strong argument if the sums add up; there's no point in replacing British lorries with foreign ones. Maybe revenue from duty increases should be ring-fenced with some going to British haulier fuel rebates and the rest going on projects to allow more freight to go by train.
